GW’s newest residence hall needs a name, and the task has fallen to the GW community. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni have been encouraged to submit names for the residence hall, currently under construction at 2121 H Street NW.
Those who participate in the #HistoryLivesHere Residence Hall Naming Contest must submit not only a potential name, but also the reason behind the name. Submissions will be accepted until February 24.
According to Jon Hussey, Director of Digital Marketing Strategy at GW, there are already over 650 entries, many of which are duplicates. He clarified “we currently have 163 unique submissions.”
Following the submission period, five finalists will be selected, and then students and other members of the GW community will have a chance to vote online for their favorite of the five names from March 16 to March 23.
“The finalists will be selected by a panel of staff, students, faculty, parents and alumni who will vote for their favorite names,” Hussey said. “A point tally will determine the final five.”
When asked what the 12-15 person panel is looking for in a potential name, Hussey said that they want “names that are relevant to the history of our university, our neighborhood and George Washington.”
The winner will be announced on March 24, the day after the voting period.
