In pop culture news, this week it was announced that Harry Styles will be joining the cast of Olivia Wilde’s upcoming movie Don’t Worry Darling. According to the entertainment magazing Variety, the known cast now includes Styles, Florence Pugh, Chris Pine and Dakota Johnson. The late casting of Styles comes after the role’s original actor, Shia LaBeouf, had to withdraw due to scheduling. While there are limited details regarding the plot, rumors reveal that it is a psycho-thriller set in the 1950s and will follow a couple, played by Styles and Pugh, who must deal with a secret held by Styles’ character and darkness beneath their small town’s utopian façade.
Fans took to Twitter to express their excitement. Even the mere anticipation of seeing new red carpet ensembles and cast interviews has given Styles’s supporters energy. The announcement comes three years after Styles’ first major film role in the Christopher Nolan film, Dunkirk (2017). However, this upcoming role alludes to more screen time for the new actor, better known as a solo singer and former member of the über famous band, One Direction.
This film will also be an opportunity for Wilde to continue her transition from actor to director. Her debut film, Booksmart (2019), was met with overwhelming praise from critics. According to Deadline, an entertainment news site, the project also brings in one of the writers from Booksmart, Katie Siblerman, who wrote the Don’t Worry Darling screenplay. A release date for the film is far in the future with production likely to begin this fall.
Does this new project mean we will be seeing more acting in Styles’ future? Deadline has also reported recently that he is rumored to play alongside Lily James in a film adaptation of the novel “The Policeman.”
