The GW Vibes were selected Monday evening as one of four local groups to perform at the upcoming National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. Comprised of 23 members, the GW acapella group was selected out of 20 finalists from the Sing Into Spring 2014 competition.
“We worked really hard on our audition piece, and we are so happy to see it pay off,” said junior Vibes member Galen Hancock. “Nothing is better than getting a chance to represent our school and our genre of music at one of the greatest celebrations of the year.”
Sing Into Spring is a new competition hosted by American Idol alumnus Justin Guarini. Beginning this year, the competition’s goal is to showcase local talent in the Cherry Blossom Parade. The Vibes submitted a short video in November showcasing their talent and were chosen from hundreds of competing submissions including the GW Pitches.
“Going to the Sing into Spring auditions was an amazing opportunity and hearing the fantastic local talent was awe-inspiring,” said senior member Sean McKinley. “This was a new experience for the Vibes and we enjoyed every second of it.”
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on April 12 and admission is free. If you want a preview of what the Vibes have to offer, they’ll be performing on Feb. 7 in University Yard.
