This year’s OnlyAtGW Debate will take place on Sunday March 30 at 8 p.m. in Lisner Auditorium and will feature guest speakers David Plouffe and Charles Krauthammer.
David Plouffe, who worked as the campaign manager for the 2008 Obama campaign and is a former Senior Advisor to President Barrack Obama, will represent the College Democrats. Charles Krauthammer, who is a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, nightly panelist for Fox News, and a contributing editor to the Weekly Standard, will represent the College Republicans.
Students and faculty across campus are greatly anticipating the event and are excited to hear two incredibly qualified individuals discuss topics very relevant to today’s political dialogue.
“Both groups were able to bring excellent debaters and the topics are on point with the current national discussion,” said first year student Joe Picozzi. Member Lauren Hoffman added, “It’s going to be interesting hearing a political debate between two very qualified, intelligent, and renown in their fields.”
Leaders of both groups are pleased with the debate’s lineup. “We are honored to welcome Dr. Krauthammer as our speaker for this year’s debate,” said College Republicans President Alexander Miller. “Facing Dr. Krauthammer against Plouffe is likely to create one of the most policy-oriented and intelligent debates we’ve seen.”
The College Democrats are equally excited and are hopeful for a thought-provoking debate. “We are very excited to host these speakers; both are very knowledgeable, intelligent, eloquent, and dynamic individuals who will surely inform and entertain students,” said College Democrats President Omeed Firouzi. “This debate is a classic example of the kind of unique political experience students are exposed to at GW.”
Tickets for the event are free and are available in Marvin Center 422 during GW College Democrats and College Republicans office hours until this Friday, March 28th. Students can also get tickets from the Lisner Auditorium box office on March 30th.
