University officials announced plans Wednesday to relocate Student Health Services and the University Counseling Center to the lower level of the Cloyd Heck Marvin Center next year.
The decision comes four months after President Knapp’s announcement of the move, however a location was not announced. A Health Working Group, which included Student Association President Julia Susuni and several university officials, was established to determine the best new location.
“We specified that the new location should be viable and centrally located on the Foggy Bottom campus,” said Susuni.
For the elected leaders of next year’s Student Association, the decision comes as an early win.
“[Executive Vice President-elect] Avra Bossov and I are excited about the SHS and UCC move because it aligns with our goals of improving the accessability of mental health resources on our campus,” said SA President-elect Nick Gumas, who plans to make a peer-counseling program one of his top priorities next year.
The move is set to take placein early 2015, according to university officials.
Part of the GW Campus Store will be repurposed as the SHS and UCC. The University has yet to announce another location to sell branded merchandise, although the former STA Travel space on the ground floor will be used to sell books and class materials.
