Add “District House” to the name of dorms on campus. In a Youtube video, GW President Steven Knapp announced Tuesday that the $130 million residence hall set to open in Fall 2016 will be called “District House.” The winning name was suggested by Senior Alexandra Blackwell, who will win a Macbook Air.
Knapp announced the name following the conclusion last Monday night of the “#HistoryLivesHere” contest, which gave the community the ability to suggest names to a nominating committee of GW faculty, staff, alumni, students, and parents. This committee paired a list of more than 400 entries down to four. Then, the contest ended with a week long voting period among the four finalists.
The other finalists were University Commons, Tricentennial Hall, and Unity Hall.
