Forbidden Planet Productions presented their “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”in the West Hall Theatre over the weekend. The show was directed by Brian Tucker and ran from April 24-26.
The show is about two con-artists who are making a living by tricking wealthy women out of their money. The musical had a lot of dancing and was performed by eight actors. Cast members say that this show was deceptive, unexpected, intriguing and the right amount of ridiculousness.
“I don’t think that it is just about two guys trying to con somebody, it’s more about two completely polar opposite people becoming friends and finding an odd friendship in something they both love to do,” said actor Chris DiGangi.
This show was the final one for Tucker, who is graduating this May. The cast was happy to work with him for this show. “He was an excellent leader throughout the process in order to get the show off the ground,”said actress Stephanie Brennan.
The audience felt that the show was hilarious, wacky and fun. The show gave everyone a chance to imagine that they were on the French Riviera during what can be a stressful part of the school year.
The show was previously on Broadway for a couple of seasons but is most well-known from the 1988 Hollywood movie with Steve Martin and Michael Caine.
“As much as it’s a love story, it’s also very much a buddy show based on a film similar to the great Westerns,”said Tucker.
The next student theater show is “Spring Diddy,” which opens May 4 at 7:30pm in the Lisner Downstage.
