The Young Americans Foundation, a conservative leaning organization on campus, has recently been embroiled in a controversy concerning their speaker event with Rick Santorum. The YAF claim they have been victims of vandalism because over 2000 of their posters have been torn own. They’re calling on the Student Association to condemn the vandals and see what they can do to get to the bottom of this. The YAF is blaming liberal activists on campus who they claim are trying to stifle the speech of the Young Americans Foundation. The Young Americans Foundation website also claims George Washington might have misstepped in asking them to pay for extra security to host Rick Santorum when the College Democrats were able to host liberal Senator Chris Coons without having to pay any extra. After all this passed, it turned out to be a great event by YAF where Rick Santorum was able to speak to YAF without any sort of provocation during the actual event. This isn’t the first time YAF has felt as though they are a victim of an illiberal plot to destroy the freedom of speech on campus, noting that many of their pro-life demonstrations have also been interrupted or their signs destroyed. This incident caused the Young Americans Foundation executive board to release a strongly worded letter stating that this type of action ostracizes students on campus and is an inappropriate atmosphere for anyone trying to promote an academic lifestyle. They ended their letter with “We will not let the intolerant leftists stop our message from being heard”
